Real Science-4-Teens Chemistry
The Level 2 Chemistry book was initially intended for advanced middle-school students. However, as it turns out, L2 Chemistry also makes a great high school text! Many high school students who struggle with traditional high school texts have used our L2 Chemistry to learn high school chemistry. The current version of the text covers more depth than a high school text, but does not cover every topic. Therefore Dr. Keller has decided to revise the current edition, add more content, and turn it into a complete high school text.
- What is changing?
- 10-12 new chapters are being added
- New topics will be covered including
- stoichiometry
- kinetics
- oxidation/reduction reactions
- thermodynamics
- organometallics
- When will the new book be available?
- We don’t know. We could give you a deadline, but we’d probably miss it. Sign up for our Newsletter for updates.
- Can I get draft chapters during development?
- YES! Because we can’t give you an exact deadline for the release of the book, we are making our development process available to you. If you are interested in getting the latest on the RS4HS Chemistry books fill out the form below to get the password. We want to hear your constructive comments and feedback. We want to make this the best high school science book on the market!

Will the new Chemistry book be the only highschool book or will you include others like Biology, physics….
We plan to do a full high school series – so all five subjects; chemistry, biology, physics, geology and astronomy.
We just finished Chem II with my 9th grader. For his high school credit, I set it up as an Introduction to Chemistry. I am now looking into how to teach the topics not covered in the text. So… I am excited about this full high school text, especially the 12 additional chapters. Will you be working on these 12 first? Is it possible for Chem II grads to just get the 12 chapters as a module? If yes, when will it be available? I am hoping to get the 2nd half of Chemistry started soon, while Chem II stuff is still fresh in his brain.
OR can you suggest a good textbook (other resources) we can use to supplement Chem II to complete his high school Chemistry?
I know you are busy, but I would appreciate your help in this.
Thank you,
Sharon
Hi Sharon,
We actually have several draft chapters almost complete, but I don’t know if we’ll get them finished on your timeline. We plan to have the first half of the text finished by July and the second half ready by Dec 2011. Does this work at all for you?
I am teaching 7th grade Life Science and 8th grade Physical Science
(Physics and Chemistry). We are in the process of reviewing texts for purchase. Is there any chance we could get copies of the student text, workbook and teachers guide for review?
Please email me.
I am so pleased and excited to hear about the High School series!! It sounds like the Chemistry will be complete just in time for my daughter (she is scheduled to take it in 2012). I only wish you had Physics and Biology ready for next year…my son is taking physics and my daughter biology. We have been using Apologia the past four years and it’s become a bit boring for us now…ready for a change! Please, let us know when these will be ready! Can’t wait! Thanks, Donna
I’m so glad I found your products! Will the two books be compatible? Could I buy the Level 2 Chemistry bundle and get started on that and then buy the new book when it is finished and work on the new chapters?
Are you working on the additional texts in series or parallel? Will they come out one at a time over a long period of time?
We are working on texts in parallel. If all goes well and we can get everything coordinated we hope to have all the texts completed in a short period of time.
my son is going into the 8th grade. will he be able to do your chemistry 2 okay with out doing the chem 1 first?
Hi Melissa – yes, he can do the Chem 2 without Chem 1 especially if he’s had any other science. He should be fine.
Will there be a level 2, grade 7-9 chemisty anymore? Or will students be expected to go from level 1 to HS science?
Students will go from Level I to HS.
Hi Rebecca,
Can you please tell me if the Chemistry Level II bundle is still available? I really want all 3 items and I need them asap for this
school year. Can I use the Chemistry Level II for highschool credit
or must I wait for the actual High School version? My son will be in
9th grade this year.
Renee
I’m excited to learn that RS4K will go all the way through HS! We have completed Pre-level Biology, Chemistry & Physics and LOVE it!! We are looking forward to completing the pre-level series and moving on to Level 1. So glad to know that we will be able to continue seamlessly with RS4K all the way to graduation!!
Hello, Dr. Keller! We had some e-mail correspondence a few years ago, and I did some pre-reading on one of your early biology levels, so you may remember me. So interested to hear about the possibility of RS4K going through high school. Here’s how things have turned out for us: My eldest daughter did Apologia h.s. science for all four years, and it was really excellent. It was perfect for her. But, though clearly written and well-presented, it was *very hard* and also exceedingly time-consuming, especially if one did all the labs. If one is going to do all the tests and labs for those texts, I really think only a truly outstanding student is going to get a good grade. As an idealistic academic, I approve of this. As a mother and teacher, it presents me with a quandary for my other students who are bright but not quite up to the level of brilliance and academic dedication of their older sibling. I’m just not convinced that they can “hack it” in that series, and there’s no good way that I can see to scale it up or down for students of different ability levels. I am hoping to find a h.s. science curriculum for my next student that will be academically respectable but somewhat more do-able, so I’ll be interested to see what’s available from RS4K.
Have you begun working on the biology text for high school? If not, when is your estimated start date?
Hi Jennifer,
Yes, we are working on the high school biology text. Unfortunately I don’t have an estimated release date yet.
Hello –
I am planning our high school Chemistry course and your products come highly reccommended. I was wondering if you have a publication date for your Real-Science-4-High School Chemistry course. My boys are looking forward to beginning the course soon. Thank you for your time.
Samantha
Hi!
Just wondering about the length of time required for the RS4HS series. The pre-level and level 1 are 10 weeks (10 labs) for each subject (bio, chem, etc.) . Will the HS books cover a full year of study for each subject or will they be in a semester format as well?
Thanks!
Joanna
Hello,
I am impressed with your books and I really want to know when the Biology will be out? Maybe I should flip thins around and start in tenth grade with Chemistry instead of Biology?
Hi Teresa
Normally we recommend you starting with Chemistry. We will update the website once the Dr. Keller is currently writing Level 2 Biology and we could give you a deadline, but we’d probably miss it! Our Level 2 Biology will be part of our new Real Science-4-High School series. If you are interested in following the development of Level 2 Biology and want access to the draft chapters sign up for our Level 2 Biology Development Page.
