Science Education Gets Creative with Gravitas Study Folders

05-Aug-2009

Study Folders, a supplemental product for creative review of Real Science-4-Kids (RS4K) Level I Biology and Level I Physics, is now available according to Dr. Rebecca Keller, Ph.D., independent publisher and author.

A home school teacher and long-time user of Gravitas teaching materials, Karen Wood developed Study Folders based on RS4K lessons and refined them in her home-school classes. Karen’s husband Derrick designed it, and together they worked with Dr. Keller to introduce the lapbook product for other home-school practitioners.

“A Gravitas Study Folder makes science projects irresistibly attractive for youngsters,” Karen said. “Study Folders hooked one girl into note-taking. Her mother told me, ‘Ceci writes up a storm now.’ Before using this tool she had little interest in biology.”

Study Folder, an e-product, is available for immediate download from the Gravitas Publications website. Its interactive pieces include fill-in-the-blank, drawing, and writing, as well as cut-and-paste segments. Each Study Folder covers its respective chapters of RS4K Level I Biology or RS4K Level I Physics, and comes with an answer key for $17.95.

“My mission is about changing the way we teach science,” Dr. Keller stated. “Study Folders contain creative, exciting, hands-on review of science facts and concepts in a format that engages youngsters. The learning almost sneaks up on them!”

About Gravitas Publications:

Rebecca W. Keller, Ph.D., a former research assistant professor at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, worked in molecular biology, chemistry and neuroscience at the University of New Mexico before making the decision to become a home-school mom. After searching for a science curriculum that taught solid science concepts in a manner understandable for youngsters, she developed a series of textbooks, lab workbooks and teacher manuals called Real Science-4-Kids. In 2008, Gravitas introduced Kogs-4-Kids™ interdisciplinary supplemental materials to provide a framework – or context – for science, so the student sees how science is a part of everyday life. Kogs workbooks connect the core subjects to each other and to mathematics to build a solid foundation to strengthen learning experiences for children.
